Notate lets you annotate live webpages and organize your notes into folders.
Notate stores your note text, annotated page URLs and titles, element selectors, folder names and colors, timestamps, note positions, and interaction metadata such as scroll position in Chrome’s local extension storage. It also stores interface preferences and temporary navigation and save-operation identifiers.
This data is used to display, edit, organize, and return to your notes. Notate accesses supported webpages to identify elements and draw notes. It inspects open tabs to reuse the appropriate tab when you return to a saved page.
The extension has no account, analytics, advertising, or developer-operated data server. It does not send your notes or annotated page addresses to the developer. Fonts and icons are bundled or provided by your system. Opening a saved page loads that website normally and is subject to its own privacy policy.
Annotations are rendered inside the webpage. Website scripts may be able to read rendered annotation text; do not treat on-page notes as a secure place for secrets. The extension does not provide encryption for its local records.
Notes remain in local extension storage until you delete them, clear them, or remove the extension. Clear all in the side panel deletes notes across saved pages; Clear all on the page toolbar deletes notes for that page. Folders remain when notes are cleared. Deleting a folder preserves its notes. There is no built-in export, import, or synchronization feature.
